Project Overview

Goals

This project aims to increase undergraduate students’ skills in sustainable land reclamation management , which is critical for those who intend to enter the agriculture and natural resources workforce. We focus on the following three goals :

(1) Advance a 2+2 program certificate/minor to integrate students’ learning in a multidisciplinary issue that is land reclamation, by combining environmental sciences, social sciences, recreation, as well as sustainable forest resources management;

(2) Enhance undergraduates’ learning skills through online courses, hands-on research and field trip activities;

(3) Develop partnerships with two-year colleges, industries, government agencies and non-government organizations (NGOs).

Objectives

In order to accomplish these goals, the following specific objectives have been implemented:

Objective 1: Develop a certificate/minor in sustainable land reclamation management;

Objective 2: Recruit and promote the 2+2 program in sustainable land reclamation management education;

Objective 3: Develop new courses and create an online course library for sharing teaching materials;

Objective 4: Interact with and educate faculty at partner colleges for specific needs in sustainable land reclamation management;

Objective 5: Engage with regional government agencies and industry stakeholders.
